Jazz Up A Clean And Simple Card with Heat Embossing | Create A Smile

When making a Clean and Simple card, why not use some of Mixed Media techniques?
Usually I make Clean and Simple Style cards, but I enjoy learning from Mixed Media artists and employing their tricks.

Today I suggest to play with embossing powders in a non-traditional way for CAS card makers.

My card is inspired by CAS(E) This Sketch #281. For my card I used Create A Smile GULL-GANG Clear Stamps* ( SSS | CRT ) designed by Christine Drogt.
This wonderful set of seagulls stamps has been waiting for the perfect sketch to appear on some challenge blog. It is not only funny, but also interesting to make cards with, because it contains images of seagulls and wood pictured from top. For my take on CTS #281 I used these images from above.

How To Make This Card?

  • Stamp a seagull three times down onto a white card stock panel.
  • To make three masks stamp a seagull three times down onto a masking paper and fussy cut out the images.
  • Cover the seagulls' impressions with masks and stamp the circles of wood.
  • Create your own masks for wood impressions and cover them.
  • Mask off the top and the bottom of the panel and blend Distress inks in Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers ( SSS | AMZUS | AMZUK ) and Chipped Sapphire ( AMZUK | AMZUS | SSS ) shades.
  • Add splatters of clean water and diluted the darkest shade of Distress ink used for blending.
  • Remove all the masks and colour the seagulls and wood images.
  • To create the droppings on wood use a mix of embossing powders and heat it from beneath
  • Heat emboss the sentiment from Gull Gang stamps set in fine white powder down onto a stripe of black card stock.
  • To assemble the card glue the panel to a black card note and raise the sentiment banner with a foam tape.
Lately I am enjoying playing with embossing powders various by texture and colour. For this card I applied embossing ink with a pen and covered it with Sparkle Puff 3-D Embossing Powder, which adds texture to my card and sparkles beautifully. Then with a straw I added Embossing Powder in Primary Chartreuse ( SSS ) and in YELLOW ( SSS ).

I would like also to remind you that the current challenge theme at Create A Smile is Water.
I hope my card will put a smile on your lips and will inspire you to play together with us. You can take a look at my DT card for this challenge HERE. By the way, I used the same stamps set for it.
