Usually Big Alphabet cutting dies are more expensive than silicone stamps sets. Every card maker hesitates to buy an alphabet set if sees a limited usage of it. Can you think of more than three or five ways to use these steel dies? If you answered yes, go grab them! The Big Alphabet and Words dies are trendy now.

Card Making Trend #2 - Big Alphabet and Words Dies

Big alphabet dies are sets of steel letter-shaped dies for die cutting with machines. There are several dies sets available currently in the market from Altenew, CZ Design, and My Favourite Things. 

If you want to make quickly several cards based on one main step (2-For-1), enjoy playing with various techniques, are keen on extending use of your stamps stash or just love making shaker-cards, big alphabet dies are made for you.

10 Ways To Use Big Alphabet Dies

Here are some ideas and examples for using Big Alphas for making cards.

1. Inlaid Die Cuts, a good technique for cards to be sent by post, results in flat and not so heavy cards. Postage fee always matters for Holiday Season.

2. Use foam tape or several layers of card stock to add dimension to your card. Poped-up die cuts are always striking.

3. Stamp images down to the die cuts to make a strong focal element.

6. Combine with sentiments stamps - Another take on using the Big Alphas is to replace a word in a sentiment stamp with a die cut, positive or negative.

7. Use together with big background stamps 

8. Make a shaker-card filled with one tone round sequins or multi-colour mix of sequins, heart-shaped crystals or ice cube jewels.

Tip:

Think of your own short funny words or copy sentiments from stamps manufacturers. I love several sentiments from My Favorite Things, e.g. hogs and kisses, see you soon, ski you soon.

I recently added Celebrate Speech Bubble die to my stash and today I am sharing the first card made with it.

I started with creating a bokeh background for the card panel. You can see a quick video on my Youtube channel about making bokeh effect with Distress inks and masks.  Then die cut the speech bubble and repeated die cutting with glitter card stock. The panel is glued to a white card base, while letters are popped up with foam tape.

This is my first post about trends in Clean and Simple (CAS) or close to CAS card making. And I decided to pick one of the most lasting trends that started in 2016, continued during 2017 and will be here over Holiday Season for sure.

I define Floral Bouquet stamp as one-piece stamp giving an outline impression. During the current year many manufacturers released floral bouquet stamps, e.g. Altenew, Mama Elephant, Concord & 9th.

Thanks to growing popularity of colouring, variety of colouring media, invention of MISTI tool and similar stamping platforms floral bouquet stamps became our favourites in 2017. Have you noticed that there are less layers on cards lately? One-layer card is still a rather tricky, but adding layers of paper and embellishments definitely makes a card look old fashioned.

• We can use various techniques for Bouquet stamping - stamp it in black ink, emboss it and then colour the impression with Copics markers, watercolour markers or paints, use resist technique and ink blending. Stamping in pale dye ink such as Distress ink Antique Linen and no-line colouring bring one the most charming results.

• A big Bouquet stamp works well for different card layouts. Not always centering it and making a focal element out of it is the best approach. Partial stamping at the bottom of a card panel, across a panel or on top of a panel introduces diversity to the same design stamp. A smaller Bouquet stamp can be stamped several times to create a floral frame around a sentiment.
• Крупные штампы-букеты прекрасно подходят для различных скетчей и композиций. Вовсе необязательно размещать оттиск строго по центру открытки. Частичные оттиск, смещенный вверх или вниз даёт нередко более красивый результат. Не очень крупные штампы-букеты можно использовать для нескольких оттисков, создавая обрамление открытки.

Before I let you go I would like to share four cards I made following the trend. I used two sets of floral stamps sets - Floral Bouquet set by Avery Elle and Thankful designed by my talented friend Tasha for the Ukrainian company Cherrylana.

В завершение поста поделюсь несколькими открытками, которые я сделала, следуя актуальной тенденции. Для работы я использовала два комплекта штампов - Floral Bouquet от Avery Elle и Thankful, разработанный моей подругой Ташей для компании Cherrylana.

Floral Bouquet set includes also a few images of separate flowers which I used as the second layer over the main bouquet image.

I added Liquid Pearls as an embellishment to the second card.

For the next two cards I used Thankful set by Cherrylana Designs. I stamped down the floral image several times in black archival ink and coloured the impressions with ZIG Clean Color Real Brush markers.
