Winter Cards with Patterned Paper | Simon Says Stamp

For a long time I have been avoiding patterned paper in my cards. Lately I started enjoying patterned paper for many reasons.
Hello, Everyone!

Today I am sharing two quick and simple cards to make with the recently released Simon Says Stamp SNOW MUCH ( SSS ) and the Echo Park CELEBRATE WINTER 6 x 6 Paper Pad ( SSS ).

These both products were included in the January Simon Says Stamp Card Kit which I received having a monthly subscription.

Without much ado let me share both cards with you and a few quick tips for using the patterned paper creatively.
To make both cards I die cut the layering mats using the STITCHED RECTANGLES Dies ( SSS ).

The snowmen images from the Stamps Set SNOW MUCH ( SSS ) are stamped with alcohol friendly ink and coloured with Copic Sketch markers.
I have altered this stamp by adding a mug. To make this I masked off a tiny area above the snowman's mittens with a masking paper and drew a mug with Faber-Castell Pigment Black Ink Pen ( AMZUS ).
I applied the TRUE SNOW Paint ( SSS ) through the FALLING SNOW Stencil ( SSS ) to add texture to a linen mat.

To make a sentiment banner I fussy cut out one of the cards from the Echo Park Paper Pad ( SSS ), trimmed a tail and drew stitches with the Sakura Gel Pen ( SSS ).
Both the banner and the snowman are popped up with a foam tape. To finish off my card I decorated the snowman's hat with a pom pom from the card kit.

The second card is made with the same supplies.
To colour the snowmen I picked the Copic Sketch markers matching the paper pad palette.
The Winter Hello sentiment comes from the same stamps set SNOW MUCH ( SSS ) and is stamped down onto a light blue mat in two shades of red dye ink using the Ombre Stamping Technique as I have recently done for THIS card.
Both snowmen are raised with a foam tape and one is decorated with a white pom pom ( SSS ).

Why do I enjoy using patterned paper for my cards?

  • Patterned paper from one pad helps to make a background for simple images quickly.
  • A paper with simple patterns like linen print or light blue works well with pastes and bold sentiments.
  • The colour palette of a paper pad facilitates picking the right colours for colouring the images. On my both cards I matched the Copic markers to the shades of the paper used. For blues I used B24-26-32, and for reds R22-29-89.
  • Special patterns paper create seasonal mood for a card.
  • Cards included in paper pads can be used as banners for cards and inspire to change the stamp image like I did by adding a cacao mug into the snowman's hands.
